Armenia

The subject for my portrait for Armenia is Artak Tadevosyan, founder of HayAr Jewelry. Each piece of HayAr jewelry is made from bullet shells and weapon remains, redirecting the energy of a bullet towards becoming something beautiful. HayAr pendants, earrings, bracelets, and rings are all handmade using Artak’s self-made tools.

Armenia continues to face problems with respect to air, water, soil pollution, waste management and threatened ecosystems that may bear significant political and economic consequences.

About Artak

Artak had the idea for HayAr Jewellery in 2015 following a walk in the countryside in which he found a load of disused bullet shells and explained their use to his daughters. He decided to make beautiful objects from these grim reminders, partly as a creative project and also as a statement of peace. He makes the jewelry by hand without design, seeing where each bullet, shell or weapon component takes him.
