Brazil
My subject for Brazil Is Professor Carlos Antonio da Silva Junior who leads a team at Mato Grosso State University using Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems to gain valuable insight into pressing environmental issues
Geography
Brazil is the largest country in both South America and Latin America. Brazil is the world's fifth-largest country by area and the sixth most populous. Bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the east, Brazil borders all other countries in South America except Ecuador and Chile. Brazil's Amazon basin includes a vast tropical forest, home to diverse wildlife, a variety of ecological systems, and extensive natural resources spanning numerous protected habitats.

Environmental issues
Brazil’s unique environmental heritage is the subject of significant global interest, as environmental degradation through processes like deforestation has direct impacts on global issues like climate change and biodiversity loss.
About Carlos
The subject for my portrait for Brazil is Professor Carlos Antonio da Silva Junior, a leading expert on Agronomy and Environment specialising in Remote Sensing Applied to the Environment. Carlos knew in high school in 2005 that he wanted to be a scientist and work with satellite imagery. He pursued this dream and completed his PhD in 2016 at the age of 26.
He joined as a professor and researcher at the State University of Mato Grosso, Brazil where he is the coordinator for the GAAF lab. GAAF stands for Geotechnology Applied in Agriculture and Forestry and was created with the aim of constituting, organizing and executing scientific research using technologies such as remote sensing, geoprocessing and geographic information systems. The group always seeks to disseminate knowledge, both in academia and to the general public. There is a lot more information on Carlos’ work on the GAAF website which can be accessed via the link below
