Geography

Benin is a country in West Africa. It is bordered by Togo to the west, Nigeria to the east, Burkina Faso to the north-west, and Niger to the north-east. The majority of its population lives on the small southern coastline of the Bight of Benin, part of the Gulf of Guinea in the northernmost tropical portion of the Atlantic Ocean. Benin is a tropical nation, highly dependent on agriculture, and is a large exporter of cotton and palm oil.

Environmental issues

The primary environmental concerns in Benin are desertification, deforestation, wildlife endangerment, and water pollution.

About Anas

Anas has been working on environmental projects since he was at school. He has contributed to the environmental blog, “Adeyemi”, raised awareness about the ecological issues at the floating village in Ganvie, and led the “Tous en veste” program which consisted of picking up waste dressed in a bright jacket, to send a strong message of positive action to the authorities and the population. He has led projects to communicate environmental messages to Benin’s youth and popularised a movement to mark your birthday with positive action
